Meet Dr. Sydney Schneider

Welcome! I’m Dr. Sydney Schneider, a board-certified orthodontist and the founder of Mount Pleasant Orthodontics. For many years, I have dreamed of building an orthodontic practice where patients receive excellent clinical care in a boutique atmosphere that feels relaxed, comfortable, and inviting. I wanted to create a true “happy place” for everyone who walks through our doors, where every patient feels genuinely cared for and leaves with a lasting positive impression. After practicing for several years as an associate, I was ready to bring my vision to life, and I couldn’t be more excited to welcome you to our practice. As the sole doctor, I personally treat every patient from start to finish. I believe that consistent, one-on-one care leads to optimal results and the best experience. Our space was designed with a calming, elevated feel so that patients of every age feel right at home. My goal is simple: to make every visit one you actually look forward to.

I was born and raised in St. Louis, where my own experience as an orthodontic patient sparked a lifelong passion for the field. I love that orthodontics combines artistry, precision, critical thinking, and meaningful relationships with patients. I graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University in New York City before earning my Doctor of Dental Medicine from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. I completed my orthodontic residency at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, earning both my Certificate in Orthodontics and Master of Science in Dentistry. I am board certified by the American Board of Orthodontics, a distinction held by only a fraction of practicing orthodontists. I am also an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, the Southern Society of Orthodontists, and the South Carolina Association of Orthodontists. My research has been published in several peer-reviewed orthodontic and dental journals, reflecting my ongoing commitment to evidence-based care.

Prior to founding Mount Pleasant Orthodontics, I practiced in Maryland and Connecticut, treating children, teens, and adults with a wide range of orthodontic needs — from early interceptive treatment to Invisalign and complex interdisciplinary cases. I believe orthodontics is about more than straightening teeth: my treatment philosophy emphasizes facial esthetics, airway health, and long-term function, always prioritizing conservative, individualized care. The best treatment plans are built together. I take the time to understand each patient’s concerns and goals, and I involve them in every decision along the way, so they feel confident and informed in the plan we choose.

On a personal note, I’m a wife and mom of two boys. My husband, Matt, and I decided to move to Mount Pleasant from Maryland to raise our family in a community with strong values and a close-knit feel. In my free time, you’ll usually find me chasing after our sons, staying active, or enjoying time outdoors with my family. I’m so glad to be here, and I can’t wait to meet you!
