Getting Started
The American Association of Orthodontists recommends a first orthodontic evaluation by age 7. At this age, Dr. Sydney Schneider can identify developing concerns with the teeth, jaws, and bite, even while many baby teeth are still present. Some children benefit from early interceptive treatment, while others simply need their growth monitored until the timing is right. Timing is critical when it comes to managing certain orthodontic problems, so an early evaluation is important even if you haven’t noticed any concerns.
Yes! Your initial consultation is complimentary. It’s a chance to meet Dr. Sydney Schneider, our team, learn about your options, and have your questions answered.
No. We welcome all patients for a consultation, with or without a referral. When possible, we would like to connect with your dentist before your initial visit to learn about your most recent checkup and any planned dental treatment. This helps us have all the information we need to finalize your orthodontic plan at your consultation. Just share your dentist’s contact information when you schedule, and we’ll take care of the rest.
You’ll meet with our team to discuss your concerns and goals, and we’ll take orthodontic records, which often include x-rays, photos, and a digital scan of your teeth. Dr. Sydney Schneider will then complete a thorough orthodontic evaluation, review her findings and recommendations with you, and answer your questions. Our team will also review treatment costs, insurance benefits, and payment options. Visit our What to Expect page to learn more.
It’s never too late to improve your smile. Healthy teeth can be moved at any age, and many adults choose treatment because their teeth have shifted over time, they never had braces as a child, or they’re preparing for other dental work, such as implants or crowns. Discreet options like clear braces and clear aligners make treatment easy to fit into adult life.
Usually not. Crowding and bite problems rarely correct themselves as a child grows, and in many cases, crowding worsens over time. An evaluation will help determine whether your child would benefit from treatment now or whether monitoring is the best approach.
A beautiful smile is only one of the benefits of orthodontic treatment. Well-aligned teeth are easier to brush and floss, which can lower the risk of tooth decay and gum disease. A healthy bite also helps prevent uneven wear on the teeth and supports proper chewing and jaw function over time. And of course, a smile you feel great about can make a real difference in your self-confidence!
Treatment
We offer traditional braces, clear braces, custom digital braces, and Invisalign clear aligners. When needed, these may be combined with other orthodontic appliances, such as palatal expanders to widen the upper jaw or functional appliances that help correct bite and jaw relationships. We also treat more complex cases, including those that require jaw surgery.
Both can be excellent options, and the right choice depends on your bite, your goals, and your lifestyle. Aligners are nearly invisible and removable, but they need to be worn consistently to work well. Braces work around the clock with no need to keep track of wear time. We will walk you through the pros and cons of each at your consultation.
Treatment time depends on the complexity of your case and the type of treatment. You’ll receive an estimated timeline at your consultation.
For your convenience, we can often begin the treatment process the same day. Depending on your plan, this may mean taking a digital scan of your teeth and ordering your custom braces or Invisalign aligners, or, in some cases, starting treatment right away.
Placing braces doesn’t hurt. You may feel some soreness for a few days afterward as your teeth begin to adjust, and sometimes after an adjustment appointment. Soft foods, cold drinks, and over-the-counter pain relievers can help. Patients with aligners may feel similar pressure when switching to a new set.
Life with Braces & Aligners
