Teeth Whitening FAQs
How does Zoom whitening work?
Zoom uses a professional-strength hydrogen peroxide gel. When activated by a specialized LED light, the gel releases oxygen that penetrates the tooth surface and breaks down stains, leaving your smile noticeably brighter. During your appointment, we’ll protect your gums, apply the gel, and activate it in several short intervals. The full visit takes about an hour.
Will whitening make my teeth sensitive?
Sensitivity during or after treatment is common and usually temporary. Using a toothpaste for sensitive teeth for about two weeks before your appointment can help, and we use desensitizing products during the procedure. Some patients may still experience discomfort, which an over-the-counter pain reliever can help ease as needed.
What should I avoid after whitening?
For at least 24 hours, and until any sensitivity has resolved, avoid coffee, tea, red wine, and other foods and drinks that can stain.
How long will my results last?
Results vary from person to person and depend largely on your habits. Limiting staining foods and drinks and keeping up with good oral hygiene will help your smile stay brighter longer.
Is whitening right for me?
Most patients are good candidates. Whitening works best on stains from food, drinks, and natural aging, and it does not change the color of crowns, veneers, or tooth-colored fillings. Before treatment, we’ll complete an assessment to confirm that in-office whitening treatment is recommended for you.
